Aluminum alloys made by Almexa
5052 aluminum: sheet, coil and circles made in Mexico
5052 aluminum is a 5000 series alloy with 2.2 to 2.8% magnesium and 0.15 to 0.35% chromium, per The Aluminum Association. It is stronger than 3000 series alloys and performs better in marine environments; it is the alloy of boxes, tanks and structural transportation parts. Almexa makes it as coil, sheet and circles from 0.0197 to 0.1575 in (0.50 to 4.0 mm) and up to 36 in (914 mm) wide, in O and H3X tempers.

The magnesium in the 5000 series raises strength more than the manganese in the 3000 series and improves performance against salt water. 5052 is often ordered as H32, an H3X temper: strain hardened and stabilized.
Like every alloy Almexa makes, it is non heat treatable: strength is set by the temper. In the 5000 series Almexa makes O and H3X tempers.

5052 or 3003
5052 is stronger and performs better in marine environments; 3003 forms more easily and Almexa makes it up to 48 in wide, versus 36 in for 5052. If the part does not need the strength of 5052, a 3000 series alloy may do the job.
5052 maximum width
In the 5000 series the maximum width is 36 in (914 mm) in coil, sheet and circles. If your part needs more, the slitting calculator shows how to reach your final size and the scrap involved.
What 5052 aluminum is used for
- Higher-strength heat shields, boxes, structures and parts that need strength (Automotive and transportation: 5052 / 5754 (up to 36 in))
- Exposed parts that need more corrosion resistance (Construction: 5005 / 5052 (up to 36 in))
- Transportation, marine environments and structures (Service centers and re-rollers: 5005 / 5052 / 5754 (up to 36 in))

Frequently asked questions
What is 5052 aluminum?
It is a 5000 series aluminum alloy with 2.2 to 2.8% magnesium and 0.15 to 0.35% chromium, per The Aluminum Association. It is stronger than 3000 series alloys and performs better in marine environments; it is used for boxes, tanks, transportation structures and automotive stamping.
What sizes of 5052 aluminum does Almexa make?
Coil from 0.0197 to 0.1575 in (0.50 to 4.0 mm) and 6.30 to 36 in wide; sheet from 0.0197 to 0.1575 in, up to 36 × 120 in; and circles from 0.0220 to 0.1575 in and up to 36 in in diameter, in O and H3X tempers, per the September 2026 technical sheet.
Does Almexa make 5052 H32 aluminum sheet?
Yes. H32 is an H3X temper, strain hardened and stabilized, which Almexa makes in the 5000 series along with O temper. Every lot ships with a mill test report covering chemistry and mechanical properties.
How much does 5052 aluminum sheet weigh?
Its density is 2.68 g/cm³ (0.097 lb/in³) per The Aluminum Association: 0.063 in sheet weighs about 0.88 lb per square foot, about 1% less than the site's weight calculator gives, since it uses 2.71 g/cm³.
