About us: Mexico's aluminum rolling mill

Almexa Aluminio, S.A. de C.V. is Mexico's aluminum rolling mill: it melts, casts and rolls the metal at its plant in Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico, with 20,000 metric tons per year of installed capacity. It is the industrial products division of Grupo Vasconia, S.A.B., a Mexican industrial group founded in 1911 and listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange under the ticker VASCONI. It comes from the merger of the Mexican subsidiaries of Alcan and Reynolds with Almexa Aluminio and IMASA (Industria Mexicana del Aluminio).

Almexa today: the 2025 restructuring, with dates

In January 2025 Grupo Vasconia, the group Almexa belongs to, began a financial restructuring under a plan agreed in advance with its creditors. In October 2025 the process concluded with a positive and favorable outcome for Almexa. These are the key facts, with their public source:

1. Jan 2025
   Pre-arranged reorganization

   Grupo Vasconia entered concurso mercantil (Mexican reorganization) with a pre-agreed restructuring plan, in conciliation stage.

   Agreement approved

   Court approval of the reorganization agreement and exit from the proceeding, with a positive and favorable outcome for Almexa.

What it means for you

• The restructuring is complete: the agreement is approved and the capitalization settled.
• The Cuautitlán Izcalli plant operates and the sales team serves the domestic and export markets.

What we learned

Some years ago a previous management oriented the plant almost entirely to the export market, and domestic customers were left unattended. That period is over. Today the sales team has a name, a phone number and responsibility per product line, and this page exists so you can check.

1. 1944
   Aluminum manufacturing begins in Mexico

   Aluminio Industrial Mexicano starts with aluminum foil production.

2. Following decades
   Alcan and Reynolds in Mexico

   The Mexican subsidiaries of Alcan and Reynolds merge; IMASA, Industria Mexicana del Aluminio, becomes a leading rolling company in Mexico and Central America.

3. 2007
   Grupo Vasconia enters the sector

   Grupo Vasconia acquires IMASA and enters aluminum rolling.

4. 2013
   Grupo Vasconia acquires Almexa

   Grupo Vasconia acquires Almexa and integrates it with IMASA into a single rolling mill.

Sustainability

Aluminum recycles without losing its properties, and recycling it uses about 5% of the energy needed to produce primary aluminum. Almexa buys recycled aluminum from its own customers and from other sources, such as local scrap suppliers, and in the alloys that allow it blends it with primary aluminum, which helps improve its customers' carbon footprint. Recycled content per product and carbon footprint figures will be published with their calculation method once audited.
