Aluminum sheet weight calculator: 4 x 8, 4 x 10 and custom sizes
Enter the thickness, pick the size, the number of sheets and the alloy, and get the weight per sheet, the total and how many sheets make a metric ton. A 48 x 96 in (4 x 8 ft) sheet at 0.040 in weighs about 18.0 lb (8.2 kg) at 2.71 g/cm³: about 122 sheets per metric ton.
How sheet weight is calculated
Sheet weight in pounds = width in inches × length in inches × thickness in inches × 0.0979 lb/in³ (2.71 g/cm³, the density of 1100). A 48 x 96 in sheet at 0.040 in weighs 48 × 96 × 0.040 × 0.0979 = 18.0 lb (8.2 kg). Sheets per metric ton = 2,204.6 lb ÷ weight of one sheet: 122 full sheets in that example.
Density changes little with the alloy: per The Aluminum Association, 1100 is 2.71 g/cm³, 3003 is 2.73, 3105 is 2.72 and 5052 is 2.68, less than 2% between the lightest and the heaviest. For the other alloys Almexa makes, the calculator uses 2.71 g/cm³. The result is theoretical: actual weight varies with thickness tolerance.
How much does a 4 x 8 aluminum sheet weigh?
A 48 x 96 in (4 x 8 ft) sheet weighs about 9.0 lb at 0.020 in, 14.4 lb at 0.032 in, 18.0 lb at 0.040 in, 28.4 lb at 0.063 in and 56.4 lb at 0.125 in, at 2.71 g/cm³. A 48 x 120 in (4 x 10 ft) sheet weighs 25% more in the same gauge.

Sheet sizes Almexa makes
Per its September 2026 technical sheet, Almexa cuts sheet from its own coil, 0.0197 to 0.1575 in (0.5 to 4.0 mm) thick, 11.97 to 48 in (304 to 1,219 mm) wide in 1000 and 3000 series and up to 36 in (914 mm) in 5000 series, and 13.78 to 120 in (350 to 3,048 mm) long. If your size falls outside that range, the calculator tells you and you can still send your request. Below 0.0197 in, coil or strip from 0.0177 in is the better fit; above 0.157 in, plate from 0.157 to 13 in.

Frequently asked questions
How many 4 x 8 aluminum sheets are in a ton?
About 152 sheets at 0.032 in, 122 at 0.040 in and 77 at 0.063 in per metric ton (2,204.6 lb), at 2.71 g/cm³. Divide 2,204.6 lb by the weight of one sheet; for a short ton, divide 2,000 lb instead.
How much does a 4 x 10 aluminum sheet weigh?
About 18.0 lb (8.2 kg) at 0.032 in, 22.6 lb (10.2 kg) at 0.040 in and 35.5 lb (16.1 kg) at 0.063 in, for a 48 x 120 in sheet at 2.71 g/cm³: 25% more than a 4 x 8 sheet in the same gauge.
What aluminum sheet sizes does Almexa make?
Sheet 0.0197 to 0.1575 in (0.5 to 4.0 mm) thick, 11.97 to 48 in wide (up to 36 in in 5000 series) and 13.78 to 120 in long, per the September 2026 technical sheet. 36 x 96, 48 x 96 and 48 x 120 in sheets fit that range; the 48 in wide ones in 1000 and 3000 series.
How much does the alloy change sheet weight?
Very little. Per The Aluminum Association, 1100 is 2.71 g/cm³, 3003 is 2.73, 3105 is 2.72 and 5052 is 2.68: less than 2% between the lightest and the heaviest. The calculator uses the density of the alloy you pick.
