Automotive and transport
The use of aluminum in the automotive industry has constantly been increasing in recent years and now comprises more than a quarter of the aluminum produced. Today parts like pistons, engine housings, wheels, gearboxes, anti-lock brake systems, suspension assembly, shock absorbers and heat exchangers for air conditioning systems, radiators and body structures among others, are all made of aluminum.
The use of this material has big environmental advantages; the lightness of the material creates a reduction in the weight of the vehicle up to 30%, which is translates into fuel savings. In terms of recyclability more than the 95% of the contained aluminum in cars is recovered and recycled.
